Learning and Curving

I'm in class right now with Bob Krakower an amazing on-camera acting coach.  I started working with Bob this summer and he’s rocking my world. The technical aspects of on-camera auditioning have eluded me and it’s a gift to work with a master who is so incredibly generous, knowledgeable and clear.

Having said that, the learning curve can sometimes feel like a hike.

On the hot seat yesterday, reworking a scene that I had done, watched with the group and critiqued, I wished to have the earth swallow me up. It was a quick and panicked prayer, and it reminded me that I was indeed in exactly the right place.

My business coach Dallas Travers (yes, I have lots of teachers/guides/coaches) says that yucky feeling means we are growing. It’s often been my choice to avoid discomfort, probably not uncommon, but now I see it in a different light.

I sat there watching my thoughts as Bob told the class what I was doing wrong and what needed to happen in the scene to make it work and I made friends with the discomfort. Yes, I thought, BRING IT ON, this is the passage to understanding and as for comfort, eh, maybe not so much.

Great point Jen.... I hate that uncomfortable feeling, but thinking of it as growing is genius and true.

Right?! It's showing up all over the place now, in relationships too!

Bravo for embracing the growth!! Kelsey & I have been talking about taking Bob's class. So great to hear that you're getting so much out of it. And now I also know to prepare for brutal truth that leads to stellar results. =)
